Portable Energy for the Dismounted Soldier

Abstract

In response to the study charge, the JASONs focused primarily on fuel cells for portable electrical energy production. Fuel cell technologies that were evaluated included high temperature fuel cells such as solid oxide fuel cells and molten carbonate fuel cells, and low/mid temperature (80-200 deg C) fuel cells including phosphoric acid fuel cells, alkaline fuel cells, and polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. In addition, direct methanol fuel cells were evaluated.
