Using a Recirculating Fiber Loop to Determine the Limitations Placed on Ultra-High-Performance Soliton and Linear Optical Systems by Polarization Mode Dispersion

Abstract

System effects of Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) were investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Several novel methods for PMD emulation, compensation and monitoring were developed, theoretically analyzed and experimentally investigated.
