Scopolamine Antagonizes the Lethal Effects of O-isobutylS-2-(DIETHYLAMINO)ETHYL-methylphosphonothioatc (VR)

Abstract

O-isobutyl S-2.(DIETHYLAMINO)ETHYLmethylphosphonothioate (VR) causes cholinergic hyperfunctions, seizures, convulsions, cardiorespiratory failure, and death. This study evaluated the effectiveness of scopolamine in antagonizing VR-induced pathophysiology and lethality in guinea pigs chronically instrumented for concurrent recordings of electrocorticogram, diaphragm electromyogram, Lead II electrocardiogram and neck skeletal muscle electromyogram.
