Development of Officer Leadership for the Army: Preliminary Results

Abstract

Two field experiments were designed to test some of the main propositions in transformational leadership theory. The main purpose for conducting these experiments was to develop a better understanding of how to accelerate the development of Army Officer leadership. It was done systematically to create specific leadership constructs that examined how they affected individual/group development, readiness, and performance over time. The results show successful pilot project where officers in the experimental and control condition differed in learning ideas about leadership, while remaining similar in other ways from those not receiving transformational leadership training.
