Dispersed Liquid Agent Fire Suppression Screen
Abstract
The design, construction, demonstration, and operation of a bench-scale device capable of screening the fire suppression efficiency of liquid agents are described in detail in this report. The apparatus is based on a well-characterized flame, a means to facilitate the introduction of liquid agents, and a way to generate liquid droplets. The performance of the apparatus has been characterized using fluids with different thermophysical properties and fire suppression effectiveness. The apparatus is robust and easy to operate. A step-by-step test procedure is provided to facilitate the use of the apparatus. The droplet delivery system is designed to handle small quantity of liquid sample. The apparatus can also be used to screen gaseous agents. When a powder delivery system is integrated into the current apparatus, the facility, in principle, can be employed to screen powder agents.
