Network Processors and Utilizing their Features in a Multicast Design

Abstract

The main goal of this thesis was to design a multicasting forwarder using Intel Internet exchange architecture and the IXPl2OO network processor. The combat system computers on warships are connected to each other with a network to respond any attack immediately. The sensors and the weapons of the ships communicate with each other by using this network. The communication between systems must be lightweight to increase the respond time. This thesis can be used in these systems to eliminate network over-heads. The sensors can send the information packets to control consoles by using unicast based multicasting to eliminate network overhead.
