Transformation and Transition: DARPA's Role in Fostering an Emerging Revolution in Military Affairs. Volume 2- Detailed Assessments

Abstract

The Institute for Defense Analyses was tasked by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to assess the agency's role in effecting fundamental change in defense capabilities for the advantage of US military forces, focusing on what has been termed the post-Cold War "Revolution in Military Affairs" (RMA). The Overall Assessment from this task was documented in Transformation and Transition: DARPA s Role in Fostering An Enierging Revolution in Military Affairs, Volume I, dated April 2003. The overall assessment was derived from a set of detailed case studies of DARPA program areas that were identified as being major factors in the RMA. Volume II documents the individual case studies of the technology areas that were the basis of the overall assessment.
