Evaluation of the Policies and Practices of the Defense Organizations Employing Criminal Investigators with Respect to Control Over Firearms

Abstract

Our overall objective was to evaluate whether the Defense organizations have adequate policies and practices regarding the control of firearms issued to their criminal investigators. Specifically, we evaluated the adequacy and effectiveness of the Defense organization policies and practices regarding authorization of their criminal investigators to carry firearms; the accountability, control, and storage of firearms; and reporting and investigating lost, stolen, or missing firearms.
