Investigating Web Map Service Client Technologies

Abstract

Web Map Services may provide some assistance in alleviating the high cost of providing Geospatial Information System (GIS) capabilities to Defence users. This report discusses the development of several implementations of client applications of the Web Map Service interface. Problerns encountered in the use of various Web technologies to construct the client applications are detailed. Suggestions are also made for future development efforts to improve client functionality.
