Military Health Behaviors: Promotion of Healthy Weight and Fitness in Career Personnel

Abstract

The primary aims of this research project are: 1) development of a computer-based data collection system for tracking body weight/body fat and fitness in career soldiers, 2) development of an internet-based intervention for the promotion of healthy nutrition and physical fitness, and 3) testing the efficacy of this internet-based intervention for the prevention of weight gain and promotion of physical fitness in career soldiers. The study will be conducted at Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, NC in collaboration with Womack Medical Center at Ft. Bragg and the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Natick, MA, as well as at the 94 RRC in New England. The results of this study will be used to formulate a national program for the promotion of healthy body weight and fitness in career soldiers.
