Transverse Resistivity of YBCO Coated Conductors for AC Use

Abstract

This report results from a contract tasking Institute of Electrical Engineering as follows: The contractor will investigate transverse resistivity and factors controlling it in Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide (YBCO) based alternating current (AC) superconductors. This investigation will study the properties of metallic layers deposited on YBCO and the boundary resistivity of the boundary YBCO/metal. The results of this investigation will assist in determining the optimal amount and location of the stabilizing metal assuring a sufficient stability and acceptable AC losses. Effect of local inhomogeneities on the behavior of the conductors will be also studied.
