The Collins Center Update. Volume 4, Issue 4, July-September 2002
Abstract
This issue of The Collins Center Update focuses on seven activities. "The Army's Operation Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle (OEF/NE) Initial Impressions Conference," by Colonel Eugene L. Thompson and Professor James Kievit, was hosted and conducted at Collins Hall on 26-29 Aug 2002. The conference sought to identify what went right, what went wrong, and what could be improved in those operations with regard to each of the Army's seven core competencies: Shape the Security Environment, Prompt Response, Mobilize the Army, Forcible Entry Operations, Sustained Land Dominance, Support to Civil Authorities, and Information Operations. "Role of the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve in the Army War College's Exercises and Wargames," by LTC Thomas P. Murray, summarizes a workshop that was held 23-26 Sep 2002 at the Center for Strategic Leadership. The purpose of the workshop was to improve understanding of Army National Guard and Army Reserve roles and issues in the national security environment and how they are portrayed in exercises at the Army War College and throughout the Army. "Project Decatur," by LTC Bob Hesse, discusses the Project Decatur series, a co-sponsored research project designed to identify, test, and assess concepts of operations for exploiting terrorist network vulnerabilities using Social Network Analysis. "Eisenhower Series-Drucker Conference," by Professor Jim McCallum, summarizes this conference, which focused on identifying challenges and improving civil-military relations in complex contingencies. "Institutionalization of the Strategic Planning Process in Honduras," by Professor B.F. Griffard, reviews CDN 2007, a Democratization Initiatives Support Simulation (DISS) event held 12-15 Aug 2002 in Honduras. Also reviewed in this issue are the Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course held 10-13 Sep 2002 at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, and the Schriever II Space Intelligence Seminar, held 27-29 Aug 2002.
