Site Inspection Report Vint Hill Farms Station Warrenton, Virginia

Abstract

A Site Inspection (SI) Report was prepared for Vint Hill Farms Station (VHFS) in Warrenton, Virginia. VHFS is a 701-acre facility located 30 miles west of Washington, D.C. The Installation was used by a variety of tenants to research. develop, produce, and sustain new signals warfare technology for military intelligence. In March 1993, VHFS was selected for closure by the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission. The SI was conducted between September 1994 and June 1995 at 27 areas requiring environmental evaluation (AREEs). The objective of the sampling program was to investigate the presence or absence of Contamination and the chemical nature of any detected contamination at the AREEs. Inspection activities included geophysical surveys, test pit excavation, sewerline video surveys, soil organic vapor surveys, groundwater well installation, wipe sampling and a streamlined risk assessment. Based on results from the SI program no future action is recommended and the EPA has not requested further characterization at three AREEs. Future action is recommended and/or the EPA has requested further characterization at the remaining 24 AREEs.
