Extensible Probabilistic Repository Technology (XPRT)

Abstract

Searching for and retrieving information from multiple, legacy data sources has become a critical need in areas such as counterterrorism data mining, all-source analysis, and law enforcement. Critical data is often scattered across conventional databases, web pages, XML (extensible markup language) repositories, and free text and multimedia data stores employing multiple schemas or even schema-less formats. The Extensible Probabilistic Repository Technology, XPRT, enables users and applications to search for and retrieve information from multiple, heterogeneous, legacy data sources. XPRT's mediators automatically translate information from source legacy formats into one or more federated schemas that mirror various application domains. XPRT's publish/subscribe service allows users to instantiate queries and have results asynchronously returned to them as soon as they become available in legacy sources.
