The Barrel Reshaping Initiative: Planning and Execution

Abstract

The U.S. Army Research Laboratory has discovered a process that will allow tank gun barrels to be produced with tighter tolerance in their centerline contour. Improved centerline uniformity translates into improved shooting consistency from barrel to barrel. This report describes the approach taken and the lessons learned. from searching for and acquiring a program sponsor, through planning and execution of hardware development, test validation, and preparation for transition to implementation.
