Determination of Atmospheric Path Radiance: Sky-to-Ground Ratio for Wargamers

Abstract

This document describes both the technical and user aspects of the sky-to-ground ratio program. The program computes sky-to-ground ratio, contrast transmission, transmission, path radiance, and zero-range-to-target background radiance for a user-specified observer (sensor) and target pair, situated on a slant path in the lower atmosphere for 19 different aerosols. Results are provided in hard-copy format and also in a computer-generated (tabular) file. The calculations are performed in one of three user-selectable bands: visible, mid-infrared, and farinfrared. Numerous examples are provided. A graphical user interface for this program is currently under development.
