Influence of Niobium on the Dynamic Recrystallization of Nickel

Abstract

This report results from a contract tasking Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne (ENSM-SE) as follows: The project will study the influence of niobium in solid solution, without intermetallic precipitates, on dynamic recrystallization of high purity nickel. Nb plays an important role, although not well understood, on the hot deformation mechanisms of superalloys like Inconel 718. Alloys of 0, 0.1, and 1 weight percent niobium will be prepared and studied to determine their dynamic and post-dynamic recrystallization mechanisms and kinetics.
