Medical Equipment Management through the Use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

Abstract

The purpose of this MBA project is to identify the potential value of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in the management of medical equipment at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). In doing so, the project seeks to derive potential benefits through the use of RFID technology by comparing a group of medical equipment items that are tracked within NMCSD. The project includes a discussion of additional potential uses of RFID infrastructure within the Military Healthcare System, and possible resulting benefits. Ultimately, the project will determine the financial viability and practicality of implementing RFID.
