Low-Noise Large-Area Avalanche Photodiodes

Abstract

The goal of this program was to develop low-noise, large-area avalanche photodiodes (APDs) that operate at 1.55 micrometers. We successfully designed, fabricated, and characterized In0.53Ga0.47As/In0.52Al0.48As avalanche photodiodes with diameters of 500 micrometers and 1mm. Six of these avalanche photodiodes were supplied to the contractor.
