Developing a Strategic Information Systems Plan for the Heidelberg US Army Medical Department Activity

Abstract

The Heidelberg Military Healthcare System does not have a strategic information systems plan for the future. The hospital is operating in a turbulent environment on an aging information system structure. The Heidelberg hospital recently underwent significant changes and is anticipating more within the next three to five years. This study consists of a qualitative analysis of the information systems for the Heidelberg healthcare system. Using a six-step customized planning methodology; the study develops four recommended information management goals, aligns these goals with the organization's strategic goals and objectives, defines the information technology architecture, and identifies some resource requirements. Using the recommended strategic information systems plan, the hospital must create a strategic control action plan developing measurements and committing capital resources.
