Wavelet Techniques in Multifractal Analysis

Abstract

We show how estimates on the Haudsdorff dimensions of the Hoelder singularities of a function can be derived from the properties of its expansion on an orthonormal wavelet basis. The validity of the multifractal formalism is examined and results concerning the genericity of multifractality in a given function space are deduced.
