Structural Features of Bis(Triaminoguanidinium) Bis(Azotetrazolate)

Abstract

Bis(triaminoguanidinium) bis(5-azotetrazolate) an energetic high nitrogen salt known as (TAGZT) is being considered as a potential ingredient for gun propellants by this laboratory. As part of an effort to characterize TAGZT an x-ray single-crystal investigation was undertaken. TAGZT crystallize in the centrosymmetric monoclinic space group P 2(sub 1)/n with unit-cell parameters a= 3.962 (1) angstrom, beta=15.019(2) angstrom, c=12-981(1) angstrom, and beta=95.30(2) deg. The conformation of both triaminoguanidinium cation and azotetrazolate anion as well as the crystal structure id discussed. The extensive three-dimensional network of hydrogen bonds (N-N...N) is also discussed.
