American Public Support for US Military Operations from Mogadishu to Baghdad. Technical Appendixes

Abstract

This document contains the technical appendixes for a study that describes American public opinion toward the use of military force in support of the global war on terrorism (GWOT), delineates the sources of support and opposition, and identifies potential fault lines in support. The main document is Eric V. Larson and Bogdan Savych, American Public Support for U. S. Military Operations from Mogadishu to Baghdad, Santa Monica, CA: RAND Corporation, MG-231-A, 2004. These appendixes describe bivariate and multivariate statistical analyses of respondent-level public opinion data from polling during the final stages of the U.S. military intervention in Somalia, the peace operations in Haiti, Bosnia, and Kosovo, the war against the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's Baathist regime in Iraq.
