Investigation of Pharmaceutical Residues in Hospital Effluents, in Ground- and Drinking Water from Bundeswehr Facilities, and their Removal During Drinking Water Purification (Arzneimittelrueckstaende in Trinkwasser(versorgungsanlagen) und Krankenhausabwaessern der Bundeswehr: Methodenentwicklung - Verkommen - Wasseraufbereitung)
Abstract
The occurrence and the removal of pharmaceutical residues was investigated In a scientific research project (InSan I 1299-V-7502) entitled "Investigation of pharmaceutical residues in hospital effluents, in ground and drinking water from Bundeswehr facilities, and their removal during drinking water purification" funded by the German Ministry of Defense. The project had three defined objectives including the investigation of pharmaceutical residues in ground water wells used for drinking water supply at military facilities. The second objective was to test the efficiency of new, mobile membranebased drinking water purification units (MDWPUs) for the removal of pharmaceuticals, some other organic and inorganic contaminants, and microbes under "worst-case" conditions in two extended field trials. The last objective was to predict and Investigate the occurrence and fate of pharmaceutical residues in the effluents from an Army hospital in Berlin.
