A Remotely Operated Firing System for Small Arms Weapons

Abstract

A system and procedure is described for the remote firing of a 50 calibre weapon for firing projecffles into explosive samples only 2m away The system can be used for laboratory or field firings and its major features are: (I) an electrically actuated solenoid firing mechanism and (ii) a linear actuator line%f-fire interrupter plate. Field testing has demonstrated that the apparatus is safe and reliable. A set of firing and operating instructions have been successfully implemented and are included as an Appendix.
