Occupational History of the 24th Infantry Division for February 1946

Abstract

This document presents a narrative of the activities and operations of the 24th Infantry Division for February 1946. This division was engaged in the Occupation of Japan from February to June 1946. Chapter 1 contains the following sections: Lieutenant General Robert L. Eichelberger Visits 24th Infantry Division; 24th Infantry Division Headquarters Moves from Matsuyama, Shikoku to Okayama, Honashu; Inauguration of Radio Station WLKH; and Eighth Army Inspector General's Visit. Chapter 2, Realignment of Troops, contains Unit Locations and Moves and Organizations that Deactivated. Chapter 3, Military Operations and Intelligence, contains the following sections: War Plants Investigated, Japanese Illegally Disposed of Military Supplies, Hidden Stores of Clothing Located, Civilian Attitudes with References to Newspaper Editorials and Interviews, Japanese Schools Investigated, Civilian Riots and Disorders, and Graves of Allied Airmen Located. Chapter 4, Repatriation to and from Japan, focuses on responsibilities. Chapter 5, Readjustment, Replacement, and Re-enlistment, presents facts and figures. Chapter 6, Supply and Housing, contains Supply Maintained Despite Movement, Old Japanese Warehouses Remodeled to Make New Division Command Post, and All Units Continue to Improve. Chapter 7, Special Training, looks at the Information and Education Program and Athletic and Recreation News.
