Studying at the Universities of the Armed Forces: Comparative Results from the 1999 Student Questionnaire (Studieren an den UniBw: Vergleichende Ergebnisse aus der Studentenbefragung 1999)

Abstract

The results from a poll of officer graduates of both Universities of the Armed Forces involve the personal expectations of those enrolled to become officers in the German Armed Forces. As to whether these general expectations were realized, almost ninety percent of those asked said they would have made the same decision now in hindsight. The authors view this reaction as an extraordinary expression of satisfaction. Such a conclusion should be tempered, however, by mentioning that data from those who would have preferred, in retrospect, to take another path, studied at the University in Hamburg (as opposed to its affiliate in Munich). Whether the differences in faculty, environment, and costs of living played a role in this discrepancy remains to be seen.
