Quality Management System, U.S. Geological Survey National Water Quality Laboratory

Abstract

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL) established a Quality Management System (QMS) to include all operations associated with its internal management and extending as far as practicable toward the fieldsampling component and the data user. Because the NWQL is not directly responsible for field-sampling or the final transfer of data to the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS), the QMS cannot include all aspects of the sampling, analysis, and datamanagement elements of an environmental program. All personnel associated with the NWQL, including Federal and non-Federal employees, are bound by the requirements set forth in the policies, processes, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) included or referenced in this document.
