The Effect on Apheresis Platelet Quality During Shipment with Continued Interruption of Agitation for 24 and 48 Hours

Abstract

The role of the Armed Services Blood Program Office (ASBPO) is to ensure quality blood products are provided during peacetime and war. Delays occurring during shipment of products into the area of operation can have negative consequences on platelet concentrates (PCs), which is why liquid platelets are not being shipped and utilized in current operational theaters. In order for this to change, shipping methods that ensure functionality and viability of PCs are needed to reduce the loss of product once it arrives at its destination.
