Near Infrared Spectroscopy for Improving Breast Core Needle Biopsy

Abstract

We have developed a near infrared photon migration fiber optic probe which can be inserted into the bore of a breast core biopsy needle, enabling preliminary diagnosis of breast lesions before they are removed. This probe has been tested in artificial phantoms and in human subjects.
