A CpG Oligonucleotide Can Protect Mice From a Low Aerosol Challenge Dose of Burkholderia mallei

Abstract

Oligonucleotides containing CpG motifs were tested for protective efficacy in a mouse Burkholderia mallei aerosol challenge model. CpG 7909 protected all mice from death up to 7 weeks after challenge. The lungs from treated mice were protected from infection. Preexposure therapy may protect victims of a biological attack from glanders.
