Analysis of Quantitative and Qualitative Benefits Associated with the Implementation of Omnicell

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis was to analyze the quantitative and qualitative benefits associated with Omnicell implementation at the United States Army Medical Department Activity (MEDDAC) in Heidelberg, Germany, to determine whether purchasing the equipment was worth the investment and to substantiate whether the program should be expanded further within the MEDDAC. The quantitative benefits that were measured were cost avoidances and cost savings by individual clinical services as a result of Omnicell implementation. The qualitative benefits that were measured included supply consumption tracking, reporting and analysis capabilities, medication management and patient safety, personnel time savings, and customer satisfaction. Based on the quantitative and qualitative benefits demonstrated in the analysis, the study concludes that purchasing the Omnicell equipment was worth the investment. Because of the Army's imminent realignment within Europe and Heidelberg MEDDAC's projected reduction in services, the study does not recommend expansion of the program.
