DNC/CNC Plate Cutting at Bath Iron Works

Abstract

The procurement and implementation of any major new system or process within the production environment, and I include design and engineering in this context, can potentially create much apprehension and confusion resulting in schedule disruptions. If this is allowed to happen, acceptance of the new process by the users (employees) may be delayed. Accordingly, the full benefit of the system s or processes capability may not be immediately realized thus reducing a company's initial return on investment. Therefore, it was the opinion of BIW that in order to ensure a smooth and effective system implementation BIW must define in detail, the technical and scheduling requirements expected from the proposed DNC system.
