Foreign Terrorist Organizations

Abstract

This report analyzes the status of many of the major foreign terrorist organizations that are a threat to the United States, placing special emphasis on issues of potential concern to Congress. The terrorist organizations included are those designated and listed by the Secretary of State as "Foreign Terrorist Organizations." The profile provided for each of the Foreign Terrorist Organizations on the FTO List contains the following information: Name or Names, Goals and Objectives, Brief History, Favored Tactics, Anti-American Activities, Primary Areas of Operation, Strength and Composition, Connections with Other Groups, State Supporters and Other Sources of Funding, Originally Designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, Re-designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, Issues of Interest to Congress, and other CRS reports relating to the organization.
