Transverse Resistivity of YBCO Coated Conductors for AC Use

Abstract

This report results from a contract tasking Institute of Electrical Engineering as follows: The Grantee will identify and understand factors affecting the transverse resistivity of filamentary YBCO coated conductors and to study methods to control them, The boundary resistivities of the boundaries between the substrate material (Ni or Ni-alloys) and YBCO as well as between YBCO and the metal layer deposited to stabilize the conductor electromagnetically will be determined, Additional metal layers deposited on the thin layer of Ag or Au protecting the conductor surface will be prepared and studied, The effect of an inhomogeneity on the electromagnetic properties of the coated YBCO tapes will be investigated. In collaboration with USAF laboratory in Dayton striated tapes prepared using laser technique instead of photolitography will be investigated. Finally a model AC conductor will be designed.
