Hybrid Antenna Amplifier: A Controllable High Power Microwave Source

Abstract

This report results from a contract tasking Nuclear Physics Institute at Tomsk Polytechnic University as follows: The contractor will evaluate the concept of hybrid antenna-amplifiers, i.e., devices representing a combination of a surface wave antenna and a traveling wave tube. Theoretical investigations and numerical simulations (including particle-in-cell simulations and complex calculations using existing electromagnetic codes) as well as prototype experiments on electron beam transport (in the absence of the antenna feed signal) and microwave transmission (in the absence of the electron beam) are planned.
