Establishing a Spinal Injury Criterion for Military Seats
Abstract
Currently, military specifications require use of an acceleration-time criterion to assess the physiological acceptability of crash resistant seats and restraint systems. With the evolution of crash test dummies which now exhibit great bio-fidelic performance, military researchers are considering "direct force" measurements taken within the Hybrid III anthropomorphic test device (ATD) as an alternate evaluation criterion.
