Product Oriented Workforce

Abstract

This paper represents documentation of an effort by General Dynamics' Electric Boat Division to develop and implement a plan to achieve a multi-disciplined work force at its Quonset Point, Rhode Island Facility. The intent was to determine the mechanics of development a work force in which employees have more than one skill, identify which skills and what skill levels should comprise an employee's repertoire, then determine the manner in which to assign those employees so that their skills are optimally utilized.
