Iraq: How We May Lose the War We Won

Abstract

This paper describes the pre-Iraqi War goals of the United States and the present U.S. goals and strategy relative to that country. The paper then analyzes whether those original policy goals were met and what other goals must be achieved to declare "mission accomplished" in Iraq. It also examines trends in opinion among America's politicians, press, and public with regard to the war to evaluate America's collective will to "stay the course" over time to achieve the administration's policy goals. In summary, the paper will look at the changing American will regarding the Iraq War to evaluate whether the United States will lose the war it won in Iraq.
