Precision Bearing Grease Selection Guide

Abstract

The study was initiated to develop a precision bearing grease selection guide. As a pan of this study, forty lubricating greases used in precision bearings, including instrument bearings was evaluated in a comprehensive series of laboratory tests in order that their properties can be compared and to identify potential lubricating greases for the replacement of unavailable greases. The duration of this study was three years including laboratory testing and preparation times. This study was accomplished in a joint effort between TARDEC and NRL and the ATM F-34 Tribology Subcommittee. TARDEC and NRL performed all routine tasks necessary to support the study with additional guidance and review was done by the ASTM F-34 Tribology Subcommittee.
