The Investigation of the Limiting Efficiency of Adaptive Opto-Electronic Systems

Abstract

This report results from a contract tasking Institute of Atmospheric Optics RAS as follows: The contractor will investigate beam propagation in the atmosphere and adaptive optics systems as detailed in the proposal. In particular. the following four areas will be emphasized: 1) Development of methods for solving the equations that describe the propagation of partially coherent optical radiation in a turbulent inhomogeneous medium such as the atmosphere. 2) Development of models for the atmosphere that include refraction. turbulence and molecular absorption. 3) Development of models to describe complete active and adaptive optics systems. 4) Calculations of the efficiency of different schemes for active and adaptive correction of atmospheric induced aberrations for different propagation paths. These will include upper and lower atmosphere horizontal paths vertical paths and tilted paths.
