Control of Unsteady Separation: A Dynamical Systems Approach

Abstract

We have developed exact mathematical criteria for aerodynamic separation in two-dimensional and three-dimensional fluid flows. These criteria make it possible to locate separation on wings, missiles, helicopted blades and other aerodynamic bodies from surface measurements. We have demonstrated the use of these criteria in the analysis of experimental and numerical flows data. We have also shown how our new results can be applied in closed-loop separation control for two-dimensional flows.
