Analysis of Methods and Means of Anti-Submarine Attack

Abstract

This report aims at reducing the percentage of failures in anti-submarine attack by eliminating so far as possible the element of chance. It discusses and evaluates the various factors which determine the number of bombs needed to assure success, and suggests practical ways of reducing this number to an extent that will permit destroyers to utilize direct high speed attacks. It points out the immediate necessity of increasing the attacking speed of destroyers, or providing continuous listening and echo contact throughout the entire attack, and of greatly increasing the speed of fall of depth charges.
