TPH Criteria Working Group Field Demonstration: Misawa Air Base, Japan

Abstract

Misawa Air Base, Japan, has an ongoing investigative effort to characterize the extent of petroleum soil contamination related to Tank Farm 2. During the period or 18 to 19 August 1998, soil and water samples were collected through a collaborative effort between the base, Air Force Center of Environmental Excellence and the Environmental Protection Agency Kerr Laboratory. In parallel to that effort, composites of nine soil samples were provided for this demonstration. These composites were analyzed by the Direct Method (developed by the Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon Criteria Working Group). The analytical results were used to develop example Tier 1 Risk Based Corrective Action clean-up levels.
