Collection and Analysis of Ground Truth Infrasound Data in Kazakhstan and Russia
Abstract
Our final report is in two parts. Part one is a text of a draft manuscript prepared for publication, titled "Seismic and Infrasound Observations at Borovoye, Northern Kazakhstan." In this paper, we have analyzed seismic and infrasound signals from large mining explosions in Northern Kazakhstan - Ekibaastuz (distance=380 km) and Kokchetav (distance=74 km) Detection of infrasound signals at these distance ranges at mid-latitude (50 degrees N), suggests the existence of a tropospheric duct and a modified sound speed profile, which has a fast troposphere and an elevated stratospheric lid. Part two is a report titled "Ground Truth Data of Large Mining Explosions in Altay-Sayan Region, Southwestern Siberia, Russia." We report on the ground truth data of large mining explosions in Kuzbass and Abakan regions. We acquired GTl0 quality ground truth data for 424 explosions (location, time, seismic magnitude, yield in tons) during 1999-2000 and associated waveform data from a broadband station Yeltsovka (ELT) which we deployed during 1998-1999 in the region.
