The Loss Cone Imager (LCI)

Abstract

The Loss Cone Imager (LCI) will serve as an integral component for an Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) experiment called WPIx. The WPIx experiment will be flown on the Demonstration and Science Experiment (DSX) spacecraft, to be launched in 2009, with a nominal one-year mission. The LCI will measure the local population of energetic particles, concentrating on determining their intensity within the magnetospheric loss cone. The LCI will be able to measure fluxes, energy and pitch angle of energetic electrons from 30 keV to approximately 75 keV to 60 MeV.
