Dietary Heterocyclic Amines and Polymorphic Variants in the Etiology of Prostate Cancer

Abstract

This project is exploring the hypothesis that higher intake of dietary heterocyclic amines is associated with elevated risk of prostate cancer. It is also exploring the potential that polymorphic variation in key metabolism genes may affect risk. The project is using epidemiological method to conduct a case-control study. Progress through-out the first year has been to finalize methods, hire and train staff and finalize field work procedures. Pilot testing of the proposed methods has been completed. The main field for the project will begin in 2006, once final ethics approval has been received.
