Medical Vanguard Diabetes Management Project

Abstract

The Medical Vanguard Diabetes Management Project was designed to deploy an Internet based diabetes management system, MyCareTeam, into a number of existing diverse clinical environments and evaluate how such a stand-alone clinical information system can be integrated into diabetes management program. The diverse environments include the High-Risk Pregnancy Clinic at the National Naval Medical Center and Native American Communities throughout the United States. The GAO Report "Executive Guide: Measuring Performance and Demonstrating Results of Information Technology Investments" (GAO/AIMD-98-89) will be used as the basis for the evaluation of the technology implementation. Enrollment of patients is set to start in two Native Communities, and the IRB process almost complete in two others. The processes required to implement this technology into diverse communities will be studied. This project has two primary specific aims: clinical deployment and deployment evaluation.
