The Submarine and Operational Art: The Need for Joint ASW
Abstract
The United States military relies heavily upon sealift to conduct operations on foreign lands. The threat of an enemy submarine in an area of operations will have a significant impact on the U.S. ability to conduct operations in the littoral or on land. Antisubmarine warfare should no longer be conducted by just the navy the threat posed by potential adversary's submarines is too great and too challenging to be conducted by the navy alone. Continuing with the recent efforts of Fleet ASW Command, the Navy must find a single voice to discuss ASW, its training, practices and doctrine throughout the joint force.
