Analysis of Competing Hypotheses using Subjective Logic (ACH-SL)

Abstract

ACH-SL Overview: (1) Assists analysts to assess competing hypotheses by constructing a model of impact and relevance of evidence; (2) Designed for strategic and tactical intelligence analysis and law enforcement investigations; (3) Reduces cognitive load of analysts, allowing them to focus on the judgements they make and produce higher quality analysis; (4) Extension of Heuer's original ACH approach to intelligence analysis; (5) Uses the Subjective Logic calculus for approximate reasoning under conditions of uncertainly; (6) Implemented in DSTC's ShEBA technology for structured, evidence-based analysis of hypotheses.
